These are ICAN’s key messages about the Hanoi Summit:
1. Detailed steps are needed and concrete progress. We’re glad to see a second summit – but after the lack of progress from the first summit, Trump & Kim must now start taking detailed, concrete steps by all parties to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula entirely.
2. Denuclearisation will be achieved most effectively through the TPNW. In an era where treaties are getting torn up in favour of a new nuclear arms race, only multilateral approaches based on multilateral treaties such as the TPNW provide a credible, long-term solution.
3. ICAN’s roadmap sets out the best path forward. The roadmap for the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula provides a framework for the full, irreversible and verifiable denuclearisation of the region that is clear and achievable.
